The purpose of the Virtual GiHA Course is to
- strengthen knowledge and skills in integrating gender into humanitarian programming,
- share expertise, experiences, and ideas
- learn how to use and get the most out of the IASC Gender Handbook for Humanitarian Action (2018).
By the end of the course participants will be able to integrate gender equality into the five stages of the Humanitarian Programme Cycle, and
- Describe the meaning of gender equality in humanitarian action, the consequences of inequality and evidence-based reasons for why gender equality in humanitarian action is essential
- Explain the concepts, tools, approaches, standards, and good practices for each stage of the humanitarian programme cycle
- Demonstrate how to practically apply concepts, tools, approaches, standards, and good practices using case studies, simulations, group activities,
- Adapt concepts, tools, approaches, standards and good practices to your local context and sector
- Create action plans integrating gender equality into different sectors to address a humanitarian crisis.
The course is divided into the following modules:
- 1- Introduction to the Virtual Gi-HA Course.Why gender equality is essential in humanitarian action
- 2- Key approaches for effective gender- integrated humanitarian response
- 3- Needs assessment and analysis
- 4- Gender analysis in practice: simulation
- 5- Strategic planning
- 6- Implementation, monitoring and evaluation
- 7- Resource mobilization – Action Planning – Reflections and close of the course
This course has been designed for:
- Front-line humanitarian actors
- Who implement and coordinate humanitarian action – government agencies, UN agencies NGOs,
- Across all sectors
- Non-gender specialists
- Gender specialists working in collaboration with front line actors, and who may also use the Gender Handbook as a resource.
