Description
The overall objective of the five-day workshop is to increase understanding among UN Women personnel in the East and Southern Africa Region (ESAR) on Results-Based Management (RBM). The training will be based on the RBM training module recently developed by UN Women’s Program and Planning Guidance Unit (PPGU) which addresses the following:
- Planning for results using the Theory of Change as a planning tool
- The results chain (outcomes, outputs and indicators)
- Monitoring results and Results reporting
- Evaluations
The specific objectives of the training are to:
- Promote the improved application of RBM principles, tools and good practices and further develop understanding on corporate policies and guidelines in key aspects of RBM
- Promote the utilization of the Theory of Change in programme planning- and strengthen its application in the development of results frameworks in programme and project development, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation
- Facilitate a better understanding of and equip UN Women CO staff with the knowledge and skills required to use UN Women’s results management system (RMS) and ATLAS for effective planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on results.
- Share experiences amongst colleagues to facilitate peer learning and develop a better understanding of other CO experiences.
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to Participants will be able to:
• Explain RBM concepts and apply RBM skills throughout the programme cycle.
• Understand the steps involved in developing a Theory of Change.
• Apply UN Women approaches for strengthened program design, implementation monitoring, reporting and evaluation.
• Explain the importance of reporting on results and developing monitoring and reporting plans
• Explain how to manage UN Women evaluations including Country Portfolio Evaluations (CPEs), as well as UN Coordination on gender-responsive evaluations, and principles for building national evaluation capacities
• Understand and be prepared to use the RMS and ATLAS for planning, implementation (including budget mapping and managing new and existing projects), monitoring and reporting.
The training is targeting UN Women ESAR staff involved in Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (PMER) Programme Managers and Monitoring and Reporting Officers/Focal Points. Operations Managers are invited to participate in the two-day RMS/ATLAS training component following the conclusion of the training on Enterprise Risk Management which is being delivered by the UN Women Headquarters Division of Management and Administration.
